What are the signs of atopic dermatitis?
Severe and constant itching, particularly at night, is the major sign of atopic dermatitis. Scratching the infected area develops rashes which are classified as:
- Oozing rash is an acute, sudden or short duration rashes determined by formed sores filled with fluids that could leak or crust over.
- Longer duration rashes are dry, red, scaly and itchy.
- Lichenification are rashes due to constant scratching characterized by a thick and tough skin.

What is atopic dermatitis?
It is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin manifested by increased ability to form immunoglobulin E (allergic antibodies), increasing vulnerability to asthma and allergic rhinitis and hereditary nature to a lowered entry of protein. The skin is marked by red, thick, swelling, watery skin resulting from constant rubbing and scratching, excoriation and crusting mainly on surfaces of the elbow and knee. It is called infantile eczema in infants.
