Atopic dermatitis can be prevented by minimizing rubbing or scratching as much as possible, protecting the skin from irritants, avoiding rough clothing and excessive moisture, maintaining a room at cool temperature and humidity consistency, limiting exposure to pollens, cigarette smoke, animal furs and dust, and recognizing or limiting emotional stress.

Atopic dermatitis can be prevented from occurring in infants in case there is a history of allergic conditions in the family through:

- Incorporate six months breastfeeding to baby for a stronger immune system.
- Consult your doctor about proper dieting.
- Ask advice of health practitioners of the right foods allowed for your baby if you are going to give solid foods.

What is atopic dermatitis?

It is a chronic inflammatory disease of the skin manifested by increased ability to form immunoglobulin E (allergic antibodies), increasing vulnerability to asthma and allergic rhinitis and hereditary nature to a lowered entry of protein.
